Imagine a local artist, one who sees colors, freshness in her work. Add in that outdoor ambience. Brush in a basket of ripe strawberries, a jar of local honey, a cornucopia of fresh foods. The collage in front of you is the Davis Farmers Market. The artist, the one holding the paintbrush, is Randii MacNear, DFM’s manager extraordinaire.

A visitor to the Farmers Market office in Davis cannot help but feel the dedication within. A half-round rug at the front door, artfully depicting a watermelon slice, acknowledges the business at hand. The walls encompassing the three desks are decorated with a myriad of award plaques.

A tall, graceful woman, with a gentle business air about her, MacNear is a pleasure to be with. Her warmth, her easy confidence, offer a view into this woman who has been largely responsible for bringing the Davis Farmers Market to the maturity we have all come to know.

After growing up in New York, followed by college in Ohio, she came west. “I’m really a California girl. I love it our here.” She takes delight in the outdoors, taking every opportunity to find herself in it. “I’m the person that gets up at sunrise, and unfortunately never goes to bed much later than sunset. So maybe I’m a little farm girl reincarnated.”
