There is a house in Davis, on Anza Avenue, which I absolutely love. It’s the kind of house that, when you drive by it, your eyes automatically dart back to take a second look. It’s the Angelina Jolie of the neighborhood, if you know what I mean. Painted in bold oranges, reds, yellows, and greens, it has art built right into the walls. The front garden is full of bright, overgrown flowers growing in large bright planters and the architecture is modern and unique. The front door is frosted glass with a large, frosted glass doorbell to match. Even the address marker is interesting, the numbers large, colorful and looking more like an art project than simply the numbers of a house.

Admit it; with an exterior like that you‘re probably wondering what the inside might look like. I know I did.
Lucky for me, the Yolo County Red Cross found a way to get me inside. Now in its 7th year, the Heart of the Home Kitchen Tour is an annual event put on by the Yolo County Red Cross that raises money for a great, local cause, while allowing the public to visit homes that they would normally only be able to admire from the outside. This year, the tour featured six wonderfully distinct homes, including the home on Anza. Donna Neu, the Executive Director of the Yolo County Red Cross, explains, “The tour features smaller homes and mansions. They’re very diverse…really fun and diverse.”
